WINNING THE AQHA WORLD IN 1999 WITH "TOUCH ME MISTER"

READ THE 2006 CHRONICLE ARTICLE - "COWGIRLS DREAM"

American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Professional Horsewoman and World Champion Kathy Smallwood makes her home in the heart of "Horse Country USA" near Pilot Point, Texas; just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. Her ranch is conveniently located on Saint Johns Road between Aubrey and Pilot Point within this highly concentrated area of the world's best Quarter Horse stallions, mares, breeders, trainers, farriers, and veterinarians.

Kathy's specialization in halter horses encompasses all aspects of training, showing, breeding, raising and selling World Class halter horses here and abroad. In addition to training and leading her customer's horses, she and her AQHA-Amateur husband Lonn also enjoy the rewards of operating their own successful breeding, showing and sales program, turning out three "home-grown" AQHA World Champions with eight World and Reserve World Titles thus far from a select band of exceptional World Champion and World Champion producing mares.

Born and "bred" in Minnesota to a long line of accomplished horsemen, her path to sculpting World Champion halter horses grew out of her artist's eye, graduating from Colorado State University with a Bachelors Degree in Art in 1974.

KATHY TRAINING AT THE AGE OF FIVE!!

Along the way she met the challenges of training and showing nationally in AQHA Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Showmanship, Pleasure Driving and Halter events. She even studied five-gaited horses while attending Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri!

Kathy's accomplishments in the Show Ring to date include winning multiple World Champion titles with halter mares and stallions in the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), the American Paint Horse Association (APHA), the American Buckskin Registry Association, Inc. (ABRA), and the Palomino Horse Breeders of America (PHBA). She has also won Championship titles at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress and enjoyed numerous Grand, Reserve, and Circuit Championships at all of the major stock shows including Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, and San Antonio; the Dixie Nationals in Jackson, Mississippi, the Texas Classic, and the Lone Star Futurity.

Kathy enjoys "giving back" to all the people who have helped her along the way, and is often quoted and written about as a "Top Trainer" featured in industry magazines like the American Quarter Horse Journal, Horse & Rider, Lope & Lead, the Quarter Horse News, and The Chronicle, among others.

She is currently serving as a member of the American Quarter Horse Foundation Committee in Amarillo, TX. She's been a card-carrying member of AQHA since 1957, and is also a member of the AQHA Professional Horsemens Association, APHA, ABRA, PHBA, TQHA, LSQHA, and GHQHA. Past Directorships and Board seats include the Minnesota, Kansas, Texas, and Lone Star Quarter Horse Associations.

You're always welcome to visit the ranch - give Kathy a call or just stop by when you're visiting the area. Let her and her staff show you some real "Texas hospitality" where quality, not quantity is the rule.
